Lhyfe Kemsley, a project that represents a significant part of the decarbonisation of South East England.

Located in a industrial cluster north of the Sittingbourne, Kent, UK, Lhyfe’s Kemsley project will produce up to 21.6 tonnes of green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø per day through a 50 MW electrolysis facility. This on-site project, covering an area of over 5 hectares, has been shortlisted by the UK government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) under Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2).

Our Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø will be produced using electricity sourced from a portfolio of generation that complies with the UK Low Carbon Hydrogen Standard (LCHS), ensuring low-carbon production throughout the life of the project. If selected under HAR2, the project will receive a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) to support its long-term commercial viability. Its construction and commissioning remains subject to final government agreements, planning and permitting  permissions, and a final investment decision.

Our Kemsley project forms an integral part of the decarbonisation of South-East England. At full capacity, it is projected to avoid up to 50,000 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions annually by replacing natural gas and other carbon-intensive fuels. The low carbon Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø produced will primarily supply a major industrial customer in the region while also serving other local manufacturers, helping to accelerate industrial decarbonisation and supporting the UK’s broader net-zero ambitions.

About Lhyfe Croixrault (Somme)

Lhyfe is completing the construction of its green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø production plant, with a capacity of 2 tonnes per day (5 MW), in Croixrault (around 30 kilometres south-west of Amiens, in the Somme), in the Mine d’Or business park, alongside the A29 motorway.

Lhyfe will thus contribute to the sustainable reindustrialisation of the Hauts-de-France region and help ensure the transition of the local economy towards a more self-sufficient and carbon-free model. The Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø will be produced by water electrolysis using electricity generated from renewable energy sources (primarily wind power, via PPAs).

This production site will meet the needs of manufacturers and heavy transport operators in the Hauts-de-France region (heavy goods vehicles, buses, and the chemical, metallurgy, steel and glass sectors), replacing grey Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø or fossil fuels.

About Lhyfe Buléon – Green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø in Brittany

Lhyfe will produce up to 2 tonnes of green and renewable Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø per day, or up to 575 tonnes per year, at its site in Buléon (Brittany), near the VSB Energies Nouvelles wind farm. The site’s central location will enable Lhyfe to efficiently supply customers throughout the Brittany region, promoting a short supply chain approach.

Lhyfe Bretagne is a key player in the VHyGO initiative, also known as the Great West Hydrogen Valley. Supported by local public and private stakeholders, this initiative aims to establish the first supraregional infrastructure for producing and distributing green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø in western France. The goal is to democratize this new energy source and contribute to the decarbonization of industry and transportation.

As part of the VHyGO initiative, Lhyfe Bretagne will install two HyGO filling stations in the Lorient urban area. One station will be located at the Lorient bus depot, and the other on the left bank of the river Scorff for maritime use. Eventually, 19 buses and two passenger transport boats, known as Transrades, could be powered by this clean, local energy in the Lorient conurbation. These Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø-powered Transrades will be the first of their kind in France.

What is green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø? How is it different from other types of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø?

Green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø is a type of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø that emits no CO2 during its production or when used. Green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø is produced using entirely renewable energy sources like wind or solar power, unlike other types of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø such as grey or blue, which are typically produced from fossil fuels and it is considered essential to help meet global energy demand while contributing to climate change goals.

What steps does its production involve?

It is obtained by electrolysis of water. This chemical process consists of breaking down the water molecule (H2O) into di-oxygen (O2) and di-Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø (H2) using an electric current, in this case generated from a renewable energy source such as the sun, wind or water.

The gas is then involving involving a compression and purification stages before storage or delivery for use in industrial applications or mobility applications.

How is renewable Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø transported?

Once compressed and purified, the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø we produce is delivered either directly by pipe to industrial sites or by truck.

To keep environmental impacts to a minimum and to respect our commitment to producing completely environmentally friendly Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø, Lhyfe restricts delivery of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø by truck to within a 200-kilometre radius.

What are the main applications of green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø?

Green Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø produced can then be used, for example for the following uses:

Transportation: The Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø that has been produced can power Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø vehicles. These vehicles, therefore, release zero CO2 emissions when driven.

Industry: It can be used in the production of chemicals, steel, and other industrial processes.

Power Generation: It can be used in fuel cells to generate electricity.

Energy Storage: It can be stored and used as a backup power source when renewable energy sources are not available.

About Lhyfe Occitanie

At the Triangle business park in Bessières, a few dozen kilometres from Toulouse, Lhyfe Occitanie will produce up to 2 tonnes of green and renewable Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø per day (i.e. a production capacity from electrolysis of 5 MW), with the possibility of further ramping up production to keep pace with changing uses and needs. ​

In accordance with the aims of the Occitanie H2 Corridor project led by the Region of Occitanie, this site will help to decarbonise transport by supplying green and renewable Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø to trucks, coaches and other fuel cell vehicles.
